This needs to stop! My thoughts on yet another shooting.
This needs to stop! My thoughts on yet another shooting.

This week we once again saw a shooting at Ft Hood Military base in Texas. Ft Hood is where my brother was stationed before and after his trips to Kuwait in the early 90’s. Because of that fact Ft Hood To me it has always been the base where the bravest and best reside. Now unfortunately it is remembered as something else. It is remembered as the place where they had those horrible shootings.

Ft. Hood unfortunately is just another place that will forever have that stigma. Ask yourself what is Columbine Colorado known for? Do you know any famous alumni that have gone there? How many state sports titles have they won? Nobody remembers any of that. All they know is the shooting. What about Sandy Hook elementery? It will also always be known for the shooting and not the great accomplishments made by former students or anyone else from Newton Ct.
These are a but a small sample of a growing number of places that will forever be known as places where horrible violent acts took place. Places where blood of innocents covered the ground. These are places where we failed society and society failed us.
There is an epidemic in this country and we continue to do nothing about it.
It is disgusting and inexcusable that we do nothing to prevent mentally disturbed individuals from killing innocent victims.
It needs to stop.
We need to stop immediately getting defensive about gun rights every time there is a shooting.  We need to stop coddling the mentally ill for fear of offending them. We need to stop having doctors who diagnose for the pharmaceutical companies instead of the patients.
We need to start tackling this problem head on and not with kid gloves and politically correct blinders on. We need to stop worrying about who we offend when we talk about these subjects and start thinking about who we can protect by getting more common sense about the mentally ill and what they do with guns.
