The activist court does it again, but slow down with the outrage

Yesterday the supreme court decided that Hobby Lobby had the right to opt out of the portion of the Affordable Care act that mandated they cover their female employees for all type of birth control. It was a pretty non surprising move as this conservative activist court once again ruled that corporations had individual freedoms.

It was also was pretty non surprising to see the outrage I tell you OUTRAGE from the far left. I saw a lot of misinformation on the internet so I thought I might take a second to clear some things up.
For starters I saw a lot of stuff regarding Huge corporations suddenly deciding they were religious in order to get out of providing health care for their employees. This is NOT TRUE.
The ruling covered CLOSELY HELD companies. For those that dont know, closely companies are usually family businesses. In order to be considered closely held over 50 % of the stock must be held by 5 or less people. So major corporations with thousands or millions of share holders are not going to be able to bypass the law. The other thing thats wrong about that worry is that the ruling doesnt say you dont have to offer insurance it just says that it is wrong for the government to impose a tax on you for not meeting the requirement to offer birth control as a portion of the coverage if your religious beliefs are against contraception or abortion as in the case of the morning after pill.
Now I believe it is wrong to treat corporations like people. I think its BS and that this activist court is wrong. I also believe that yesterdays Narrow ruling is not the end of the world. In fact its not even much of a speed bump.
Like everything else we’ve got to wait and see but for the time being lets take a breath and relax.
