Oh Boehner, you’ve done it again
Oh Boehner, you’ve done it again

wenn3396661On Thursday the US Senate passed a new Employment Non Discrimination Act. In the US you cannot fire someone because you dont like their skin color, their heritage, their gender, their religion, or any disability. The new ENDA would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the list of things you cannot fire someone for simply being or having. It basically says you can only fire people becuase you think they are bad employees or because your business is in a way where a cut in employees is necessary but you cannot fire someone because you dont like the way they look, who they are, how they worship or what they consider themselves.

The bill passed the Senate with bipartisan support it was a co sponsored bill. Both Democrats and Republicans realized this was simply a matter of common sense but as always common sense is something that escapes the House of representatives.
House Speaker John Boehner has said he refuses to ever call this bill for a vote in the house. His reasoning is that the bill is redundant although it isnt and when that is pointed out to him he make a point to mention that it would cause undo litigation for businesses which is ridiculous considering the only way to be sued would be to break the law by firing people for reasons that are not allowed. That by the way in itself is proof of why the bill is needed.
A survey of House members show that the bill would pass in the House with all Democratic and quite a few Republican votes so Boehner not calling the bill is pretty much the only reason that this wont pass.
When John Boehner looks back at his failed tenure as Speaker of the House I hope he remembers doing things exactly like this. When history looks back at him it wont be the votes he made that will make him a joke it will be the votes he didn’t even call.
