Here we go again…
Last week the US House of Representatives were on the verge of De-Funding ACORN again. In fact if the vote is to happen it will be the 13th Time that the House has declared and voted to not give the anti poverty organization any money. Now lets get away from the fact that all it takes to defund is just one vote, and look at the other interesting and really pertinent fact about this move by the GOP. ACORN doesn’t exist. It stopped existing in 2010 which by the way was prior to any of the de-funding votes taken by the John Boehner led House. Why in the world is our House voting to defund something that doesn’t even exist? Its simple reallly.
The GOP is continuing to play Fear tactics instead of actually legislating. As long as they keep shouting the name ACORN it instills fear in the right. Fear of overzealous liberals helping poor people so they will cast a vote for them. How dare they attempt to buy peoples votes by doing good things for them?
The GOP successfully branded ACORN as a publicly funded political group masquerading as a community organization. A claim by the way that actually isn’t that far off track. ACORN was one of those groups that said in not so many words “Hey look at us were helping you, and by the way vote Democrat”. When your’e being funded with tax dollars from everyone you just cant lie to people and tell them they’re just being helped by one group. It’s dishonest at best. HOWEVER… The organization no longer exists. They aren’t doing it anymore. So why keep attempting to fool your’e own people into thinking they exist by publicly declaring that your’e fighting to de-fund them? It is because the Republicans think some of their base is as stupid as the Democrats feel theirs is.
Let’s face it, the Democrats feel those being helped by ACORN were too stupid to realize that plenty of good Republicans also provided the assistance they were getting. The Republicans think their followers are too stupid to check and see if ACORN still exists while they take credit for de-funding it.
We need to ask ourselves regardless of ideology… Do our leaders think we are stupid?
The answer by the way is yes.
