Debit Cards Available for State Tax Refunds

Illinois taxpayers who are recieving a refund from the state can choose a debit card instead of a paper check.

The Illinois Department of Revenue says they launched the pilot program to help families without traditional checking or savings accounts avoid check cashing fees from local vendors. The card can be used at banks and credit unions displaying the Visa logo, as well as at Chase ATM's fee free.

The department says the only way to receive your refund on the Visa debit card is to use the state's WebFile site. Officicals from the department still emphasise that direct deposit is the fastest way to get your refund if you do have a traditional checking or savings account.
