AFSCME tells members to prepare to strike

The state's largest government employee union is letting its members know that a strike may be coming. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees has been sending members a memo that outlines steps they can take to help tide them over in the event of the strike. Among the steps emphasized in the memo are to put aside money now, do not make major purchases and schedule any "predictable" medical appointments immediately. Governor Quinn and the union have failed to come to an agreement on a new contract, and a Friday bargaining session ended with no resolution.
