The Illinois House approved additional spending for state programs on Tuesday.
The $2.1 billion dollars in appropriations includes $675 million for transit construction and millions for child welfare and mental health services. Some funding comes from money saved through prison closures. The spending bill also includes money for state workers and legislator health insurance.
It must also be approved by the senate. Then Governor Pat Quinn can sign off on it.
