Sen. Durbin Looking into Pentagon Spending

There are going to be cuts to the nation’s Department of Defense, but U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) says they must be carefully thought out.

Durbin says cutting the budget can’t be done in one fell swoop. “Yes, we can save money in the Pentagon, there is wasteful spending, but it takes a careful hand to do it and we ought to do it not chopping it off on a percentage basis,”Durbin said.
Durbin says they are looking to cut about $47 billion in a six month period of time. That’s 7.3 percent of just a half year’s budget.

He says regardless of the cuts, funding for Afghanistan remains the top budgetary priority within in the defense department.
