iCash Surprises Springfield Kiwanis Club

Illinois State Treasurer, Dan Rutherford, surprised the Springfield Kiwanis Club with money he returned through I-Cash.

It had almost $10,000 worth of unclaimed property. The money came from a Certificate of Deposit that was registered with the wrong address, causing the money to go to the State Treasury.

Rutherford says he is responsible for more than $1.7 billion worth of unclaimed property. Rutherford explains that many, like the Kiwinis Club, are not aware they have unclaimed property. He says the I-Cash database reveals that one in eight Illinois citizens have unclaimed property.
