Having cancelled today’s (Friday’s) session, and possibly not meeting again, the leaders of the Illinois Senate look back on the two days of lame duck session just completed.

“We’ve anticipated all of the bills the House was going to take up,” said Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago). “I’m in constant communication with the Speaker, and … I’ve been in constant communication with (the minority leader) Sen. (Christine) Radogno during this whole session.”

Radogno (R-Lemont) says, not unexpectedly, the lame duck session didn’t live up to the hype; “a lot of expectation, and not a lot of substance happened, but I actually think that’s a good thing … I think those discussions ought to take place in the regular session.”

People wanting some sort of progress on a pension solution can hope the House takes up a Senate bill covering two of the five public systems, or they can wait until the new General Assembly convenes, with swearing-in Wednesday.
