The new tax increment financing district on MacArthur Boulevard is going to see its first beneficiary. The Springfield City Council Committee of the Whole has approved 3.5 million dollars of TIF money for Hy-Vee at the old K-mart property. Springfield Mayor Mike Houston expects this will be spur more action on MacArthur.
Houston says Hy-Vee is taking a leap of faith because currently there is no money in this TIF district. The TIF will get money as Hy-Vee gets up and operating. Houston believes a groundbreaking could come in March.
