J.K. Rowling's makes millions on sale of home

"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling's former Scottish home has sold for more than $3.2 million after just three weeks on the market.

The British writer bought the property in 1999 following the success of her early books, and went on to write four more of her hit fantasy tales in an office at the back of the home in Edinburgh.

She moved into a bigger house in 2009, but Rowling is still casting a spell on property buyers after the eight-bedroom home was purchased for well over the asking price thanks to its famous former inhabitant. The final price the home sold for has not been released.

James Whitson, boss of real estate agent Rettie, says, "This was an iconic house in Edinburgh and it was a privilege to be entrusted with its sale."

"The fact we secured a buyer so quickly demonstrates that even in the most challenging of economic environments, we are well-placed to service the needs of our clients at the higher end of the market."
