Arrests Made in East Side Carjacking

Springfield police have arrested two men they say are involved with Tuesday afternoon carjacking on the east side.

Deputy Chief Cliff Buscher says 19 year old Malcolm Whitney and 18 year old Leron Harris are in custody, and believes several more were involved in the incident.

Whitney allegedly entered the backseat of a woman's vehicle in the 1800 block of south 11th Street and ordered her to "drive" while pointing a palm-sized silver gun at her children when the victim told him she didn't have any money. A few blocks later, she gave him five dollars and he left the car and got into another vehicle parked down an alley.

Whitney has been charged with vehicular invasion and armed robbery. Police recovered a small silver handgun at Harris's home. He faces gun and drug charges.
