Governor Says Every Day Should Be Veterans Day.

Sunday was Veterans Day and today is the observed holiday, but some politicians say every day should be Veterans Day.

Gov. Pat Quinn has long been a champion of veterans, so it’s no surprise that he believes every day should be Veterans Day.

“Our mission is to make every day Veterans Day in Illinois and America, we have to do that,” Quinn said. “You know we owe a profound debt of gratitude to those who have worn the uniform of our country and defended our democracy.”

U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-Chicago) is also grateful to those who have served.

“Nobody in America has done more to preserve and protect the basic freedoms and concepts of our nation than our men and our women who have submitted themselves to being engaged in war, war activities and protecting the very fabric of American life and democracy than our veterans, and so I salute our men and women who have served in the military,” Davis said.

As part of celebrating veterans, Purple Heart recipients were honored today Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
