The Sustainable Design Action Team or SDAT report is complete and ready for your review at sdat springfield dot com. Springfield Mayor Mike Houston has appointed a 19 member citizen committee to make sure it is acted upon.
He says each citizen has a background that will help with the many areas of downtown, whether it's being an architect, part of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce or a developer.
Chairman of that Action Committee, Chuck Pell, says they'll be focusing on one area, the heart of downtown. He says the SDAT Report highlights if the city works on the heart of the downtown, than that work will help spur changes to the surrounding areas.
Springfield Mayor Mike Houston says the report finds there is room for 350 new residences in downtown over the next decade. Pell says they'll be targeting millenials, those born between 1982 and 1995, to live downtown,
The committee will also be working on making downtown attractive to families as well. Pell says returning the element of fun and play is key to attracting families downtown who currently don't feel like they have any reason to come downtown.
Pell says there will be an announcement in a few weeks to unveil a new tourist attraction downtown for families.
