Republicans Blast Gill Appointment

Ill. Republicans Hope to Gain Ground

All 177 state legislative seats are up for grabs this year.  House Minority leader Tom Cross says the new legislative lines may have some drawbacks against the Republicans, but he says his candidates can't be counted out.

Republicans are the minority party in both chambers of the state's general assembly.  The Democrats tried to ensure it stayed that way when they drew maps that heavily favored their own party.  The Republicans unsuccessfully challenged the maps in court.  There are quite a few uncontested races.  Forty Democrats and 30 Republicans will automatically win seats in the House.  In the Senate, six Democrats and 12 Republicans are running uncontested.
