“Nobody wants a dead person voting,” says Illinois State Board of Elections executive director Rupert Borgsmiller. “But I do think that there are enough safeguards put into the system. What we have today is not right, OK? Let’s be very honest. We have grace period registration. We have people who have died. We will not get the next dissemination from the Department of Public Health until after the election is over with.”
Responding to concerns raised by Defend the Vote, a Barrington Hills-based “election security” group, Borgsmiller adds a 2011 complaint about ballot boxes which were not sealed has, to the best of his knowledge, been resolved.
