A University of Nebraska study puts Illinois among the nation's top ten states to start a business.
The study puts the state at number nine for entrepreneurship in 2011, up three spots from number 12 in 2010. Economists considered five key components in determining rankings -- a state's percentage growth, per capita growth of business establishments, its business formation rate, the number of patents per thousand residents, and income per non-farm proprietor in each state.
