Here’s an update on that that’s intended to be more useful: the Illinois Department of Transportation has a “Yellow Dot” program. It’s a round yellow sticker you place on your vehicle – a message to emergency responders that they can find critical medical information in the glove compartment.
The Yellow Dot materials are available at local public health departments. “We are seeing more and more children with special medical needs, complex medical conditions, and more and increasingly severe allergies,” says Josh Ross, operations manager for the America Ambulance service in Springfield.
At an announcement in Springfield, IDOT employee Julie Cowgill said the program is useful in her more important role as grandmother to three children, one of them a hemophiliac.
