Solar Energy A Consideration for Energy Savings.

Adding a solar power system to your home will require a little leg work before you start. Experts recommend to you that you find out your energy usage for the year first. Then you need to check to see if your home has a good southern exposure and lack of tree cover. Finally, you need to have a newer roof that will last as long as the new power system. If everything looks good, the Illinois Solar Energy Association's Michelle Hickey tells you what the system cost will be.  She says a typical home will put a 3 to 5 kilowatt solar system on their home and that cost can range from 15 to 25 thousand dollars.  However, she says there are several state and federal grants that can be combined to reduce that cost by as much as 60 per cent.
