11 CWLP Employees Avoid Layoffs

City Water Light and Power has avoided nearly a dozen layoffs.

Spokeswoman Amber Sabin says the utility is on its way to achieving the required 900-thousand dollars in savings through union negotiations.

Eleven layoff notices were sent several weeks ago and all eleven have been rescinded. The cuts were necessary as part of the so-called "Share the Pain" plan approved in late February that led to cuts and a partial electricity rate hike.
