VanAlstine: Budget Deficit Won't Affect Referendum Question

Ball-Chatham superintendent Carrie VanAlstine doesn't think the district's recently approved deficit budget will change how voters feel about a pending bond referendum.

The district will ask voters for permission to sell $35 million in bonds for building upgrades so it doesn't have to raise property taxes.

VanAlstine says the repairs are needed and will only get more expensive. Ball-Chatham's approved budget shows more than a 500-thousand dollar deficit -- which district officials say wouldn't be there if they'd receive 100 percent state funding.
