Springfield Unemployment Down Slightly

Springfield's unemployment rate dropped slightly when compared to this time last year. The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the non-seasonally adjusted rate in August 2012 was 7.9 percent, compared with 8 percent in August 2011.

IDES spokesman Greg Rivara says the decline is due in part to more business sector hires through temp agencies... many manufacturers are seeing an increase in demand for products, but are waiting until they see more certainty in the economy to hire full time. The Springfield area saw gains in the manufacturing, business services and hospitality sectors.
