Motor Inn. Project to Continue As Planned

Springfield Mayor Mike Houston gave aldermen the opportunity to discuss in more detail a downtown redevelopment project some loudly complained about last week... but they didn't take it.

Some city council members were upset the Motor Inn. project, approved in early 2011, had changed significantly since the funding was first approved. Houston wanted to give aldermen the chance to discuss it next week. Aldermen deemed that unnecessary and the project will go on as scheduled.

Local developer Bob Barker plans to renovate the historic Motor Inn. at 4th and Monroe and make it available for retail space. The original plan to raze the building and put up affordable housing was scrapped.
