Ramirez guilty on all counts

28-year-old Jesus Ramirez from Springfield has been convicted of two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, a count of armed violence and a count of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.

Ramirez was fleeing from police after a traffic stop in January of 2011 when the SUV he was driving spun out in snow at the Stevenson exit. Ramirez jumped out of the car and attempted to fire a 9mm handgun at a Springfield Police Sgt. and a Sangamon County Deputy.

Ramirez then ran to a nearby hotel and again tried to fire the pistol as he held it under his chin. The gun never fired because the safety was on.

He will be sentenced by Circuit Judge Patrick Kelley on Nov. 13 and up to 250 years in prison.
