Some Stolen Playground Equipment Recovered

A table stolen from a newly built playground near downtown Springfield has been recovered.

Springfield police say they received an anonymous tip shortly after officials held a news conference lamenting the thefts near the Family Service Center. The table was recovered in the 12-hundred block of south 13th Street behind a vacant, boarded house.

One table is still missing. The two tables combined with a damaged spring-loaded riding animal in the playground area totaled about $2,000 in damage.

Dozens of volunteers built the playground a few weeks ago as part of a larger project to beautify the block of South Grand Ave. between 7th and 8th streets.
