Ramirez Trial Underway This Week

A case involving a high speed chase, attempted murder of police officers and 900 grams of cocaine is set to go to trial this week.

Jury selection gets underway today in the case of Jesus Ramirez of Springfield, who in early 2011 led officers on a high speed chase from northern McLean County to the Stevenson Drive I-55 exit. Ramirez allegedly pointed a semi-automatic handgun at a Springfield officer and Sangamon County deputy and tried to fire it.

Ramirez is facing two counts of attempted murder plus a host of drug, violence and weapons charges. The trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
