Changes to county ordinance could stop wind farm

American Wind Energy Management is more concerned with some proposed amendments that with the county's extended moratorium. The company has been working on a large scale project in the county for the past few years. Project spokesman Chris Nickel says that Sangamon County already has a perimeter set back that is larger than what is required in any other county. The last minute amendments that forced the moratorium extension aim to increase that distance. Nickel said they don't have any problem with keeping the set backs away from homes, but sees no point in having them for areas such as farm fields. He said the company would abandon the large scale project if the distances were increased too much.
