Aldermen Advance Expanded "Local Preference" Measure

Springfield aldermen have fast-tracked a proposal to give Sangamon County companies a better chance to win city contracts. The city council will likely approve next week an ordinance allowing ALL Sangamon County companies, in the city of Springfield or not, to bid up to 5 percent more than the lowest bid from an out-of-area company.

Ward 10 Alderman Tim Griffin says the current rule gives city companies five percent, and county companies two percent. The item was placed on next week's consent agenda, which means it will likely pass grouped with other unrelated measures with little to no discussion.
