Tamms and Dwight prisons won't close this Friday after all.
The state has issued a temporary delay on the closures. The decision comes after the AFSCME union filed a lawsuit asking a judge to put a halt on the closures, claiming Governor Quinn was moving too quickly without considering safety risks. Arbitration hearings are being held all week as the two sides try to come to an agreement.
Meanwhile, Senate President John Cullerton is asking Quinn to keep the prisons open, otherwise he and lawmakers will attempt to override Quinn's decision during the fall veto session.
