U of I campuses see a record number of applications



The three University of Illinois campuses saw a record number freshmen apply this year. University-wide, the U of I received nearly 48 thousand applications for the 10,200 available freshman openings. The Springfield campus had 1, 553 students apply for 300 seats, while the Champaign-Urbana campus received 31,454 applications for 6,900 available fall seats. The Chicago campus saw near record interest, with 14,976 new students vying for 2900 available openings. Last year the university had record a enrollment of 77,635 students - 5,137 of them in Springfield.
