Michael Seal Found Guilty of Murder

Sangamon County State's Attorney John Milhiser says 41-year old Michael Seal of Springfield was found guilty Wednesday of first degree murder in the death of his mother, Darla Key.

Milhiser says his office found Seal guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, despite Seal's claims to the contrary. With no DNA evidence Seal, who represented himself, belived he couldn't be found guilty.

Milhiser says that's not how it works.

"It's not like it is on TV," says Milhiser. "There is not DNA in every case, there are not fingerprints in every case. Each case is individual, and in this case, we had an overwhelming amount of circumstantial evidence. We also had the statements by the defendant to numerous people that he was responsible for the death of his mother."

Seal was convicted after a two day trial of first degree murder after a November 16, 2009 incident in which he stabbed his mother through the chest.
