Tamms Prison Inmates Transfer Is Postponed

Prisoners are not going to be transferred out of the Tamms Supermax Prison, at least for now.

A judge in southern Illinois last week decided to extend the postponement of the transfer of inmates until a hearing on August 31st. That's after attorneys for Illinois and a prison workers' union agreed to extend the transfer date.

A workers' union had sued Governor Pat Quinn after he announced plans to close state prisons to save money. The union said closures would cause prison overcrowding and compromise workers' safety.
