A pedestrian was killed on I-72 eastbound this morning after he was hit by a vehicle.

Illinois State Police say 31 year old Jason Van Hyning of Bluffs was driving eastbound near mile marker 85 around 4:45 this morning when he allegedly struck a pedestrian walking near the road.

The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been released, was killed due to the impact. The interstate's eastbound lanes were shut down for a couple of hours as state police investigated.
