Durbin to GOP Rep: Stop Delaying Thomson Sale

U. S. Sen. Dick Durbin is blaming a Virginia Republican for holding up the sale of the state prison at Thomson to the federal government.

Durbin wants to show Congressman Frank Wolf what kind of man he's dealing with.

"I am not giving up without a fight," Durbin says. "I'm working with the White House and the president to overcome this one Republican Congressman from Virginia who's on his own personal campaign to stop 1,100 jobs from coming to this state. He's in for a fight."

Durbin says Wolf has spoken to him only a few times in the last fifteen months. He says the sale has been agreed to for $165 million and has survived a court challenge. The largely unused ten-year-old facility would become a maximum security federal prison, and would not house suspected terrorists currently housed at Guantanamo Bay, as Wolf fears.
