Disciplinary Hearings for State Rep. Derrick Smith Continue

A 12 member state panel is now debating whether to expel Representative Derrick Smith from the Illinois House.

The mangers of the panel recommended Smith's expulsion today after several hearings.  Smith is under indictment for allegedly accepting a $7,000 bribe for a state grant to a daycare.  Smith never defended himself or denied the charges to the panel.

If the panel accepts the recommendation it would then go to the full House for a vote, where a two-thirds majority must vote for expulsion.
