Groups Propose Solving Food Problem With Asian Carp

While natural resource authorities are concerned about Asian Carp infiltrating Illinois waterways, some state organizations have ideas what to do with the invasive fish.

Groups including the Department of Natural Resources and the Eastern Illinois Foodbank say the fish, also called Silverfin, could help solve the state's hunger problem. They say the fish, which is not a bottom feeder, is a great source of protein and they've served more than 22-hundred at soup kitchens in the last year.

Illinois American Water spokespersons say a commercial market for the fish could create fishing and manufacturing jobs.
