More Regulation Coming for Springfield's Second Hand Stores.

The Springfield City Council has been considering an ordinance that would add licensing and regulation provisions to pawnbrokers and second-hand stores.  The idea is to curb the amount of stolen merchandise that is being sold through some of these establishments.

Sponsoring alderman Tim Griffin says at this time, he wants to keep the ordinance in committee while details continue to be worked out.  Griffin says there are still ideas that need to be brought up and discussed.  Anyone with thoughts or suggestions should contact him, the Mayor, or Deputy Chief of Police Cliff Buscher.  Griffin says they want to catch thieves and deter crime, but not impede local businesses.
