Unemployment Numbers Down, Means Benefits for Unemployment WIll Expire for Some.

Here’s news that can only be called “bittersweet.”

Unemployment numbers are falling so far that benefits will be running out for those who have been jobless the longest. Greg Rivara, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Employment Security, says the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Tier 4 will end June 23.

“There are approximately 300,000 individuals in Illinois that are collecting unemployment insurance,” says Rivara. “We anticipate that the EUC Tier 4 program ending will affect approximately 25,000 people.”

Rivara, adding that unemployment insurance was never meant to be more than a “safety net,” encourages the unemployed to take stock of their skills, consider how they might apply today, and also check out a state web site that serves as a clearinghouse of jobs and jobseekers.
