Doctor Talks About The Need for Ethinic Diversity in Healthcare.

Dr. Marc Nivet with the Association of American Medical Colleges says diversity is necessary in healthcare teaching institutions in order to create better outcomes for patients in the long-run.

Unfortunately, says Nivet, there are fewer minority physicians coming through the ranks, which he believes can be blamed on inadequate primary education...

Nivet says it takes a diverse group of people in healthcare settings to create a holistic environment that eliminates cultural "blind spots".  Nivet was a Black History Month speaker Tuesday at the SIU School of Medicine.
