City Aldermen Are Asking for Alternatives to Rate Hike.

There seems to be a lack of support among aldermen to pass the proposed CWLP 9.5% electric rate increase.  The city council discussed it in committee Tuesday evening. Ward One Alderman Frank Edwards was very outspoken about his opposition to the increase.  He told CWLP administrators he wouldn't vote for the increase just to please big-city bond holders.  Edwards went on to say that we are just going to have to tough this out. Alderman Doris Turner says she cannot, in good conscience vote for a rate hike which puts the burden on taxpayers.  CWLP's chief engineer says this will mean big changes in how CWLP does business.  Aldermen voted to keep the ordinance in committee. A public hearing on the proposed rate increase is being held this evening in the Carnegie Room of Lincoln Library.  It starts at 5:30.
