Veteran singer/songwriter Van Morrison plans to play a special gig in Belfast, Northern Ireland to celebrate winning the freedom of the city.

Civic officials announced last month that the “Brown Eyed Girl” hit maker will be given the “Freedom of Belfast,” the highest honor the city can bestow on a person.

He has announced a gig at the city’s Ulster Hall on Nov. 15 to mark the honor.

Morrison says, “Belfast is my home. It is where I first heard the music that influenced and inspired me… It is where I first performed and it is somewhere I have referred back to many times in my songwriting over the past 50 years. I am delighted and honored to receive the freedom of the city.”

The singer is expected to receive the Freedom of Belfast next year.
