A look at this week’s top recalls:

15M surge protectors recalled due to fire risk
The Schneider Electric IT Corp is recalling APC SurgeArrest surge protectors because they can overheat and melt, posing a fire hazard. The surge protectors were manufactured before 2003, and have been blamed for more than $1 million in property damage and 13 injuries.

Software problems causes Chrysler recall
Chrysler is recalling 132,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees to address potential software problems that could lead to a blackout of instrument panel lighting. Affected owners can call 1-800-853-1403.

Loose screws force Mazda sedans recall
Mazda is recalling 161,400 Mazda6 sedans because loose screws could cause the side doors to come open while the car is being driven. Safety regulators opened a preliminary evaluation in May after receiving four consumer complaints on the issue, according to NHTSA. The recall is expected to begin by October 18.

BMW recalls 176K vehicles over power brake
German car maker BMW is recalling 176,000 vehicles over a problem with the power brake system. The company says in rare cases an interruption in oil supply to a part can mean loss of power braking assist. Affected models include 2012-14 BMW 320i and 328i sedans;, 2014 328i xDrive sports wagons; 2012-13 BMW 528i sedans 2013-14 BMW X1 sDrive28i and X1 xDrive28i; 2013-14 BMW X3 xDrive28i, and 2012-14 BMW Z4 sDrive28i.

Toys R Us recalls travel trunks
More than 12,000 Journey Girl travel trunks are being recalled by the toy store due to a laceration hazard. Toys R Us says the trunks, which are used to hold toy dolls, have handles that can become sharp and potential injure a child. At least six children have been injured, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported.
