Illinois State Police are reporting five people were killed in accidents involving trucks and autos on Interstate 55 south of Chicago in Will County.

Four people were killed and at least three others injured Monday on I-55 near Arsenal Road in Elwood when a semi-trailer slammed into three autos and a truck that where stopped at a construction site.

Emergency crews responded, prompting the rerouting of traffic off the northbound lanes at River Road.

Also, two semi-trailer trucks collided in an unrelated accident a short distance away near Channahon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55. State Police say both truck drivers were taken to an area hospital, where one driver was pronounced dead.
