A 30 year old suburban Chicago man is dead following a single-car crash about a half hour north of Springfield.

State Police say a car took Exit 140 toward Atlanta too quickly and left the road. It hit a tree, then skidded another 50 feet before hitting another tree. The driver’s side wrapped around that tree. Both the 30 year old passenger and 18 year old driver had to be extricated.

The passenger was taken to Memorial where he was pronounced dead. The driver is in stable condition at a Bloomington hospital. No charges have yet been filed.
