Two-Alarm Fire Heavily Damages Buildings on East Laurel

A set of buildings near 10th and Laurel sustained heavy fire damage Monday morning.

Springfield Fire Chief Ken Fustin said crews were called shortly after 4:00.

“That building was fully involved,” said Fustin. “It extended to the north at 1013 as well as to the building labeled as ‘Gloria’s.’ Pretty severe damage to all three buildings.”

The three buildings affected are 1009, 1011 and 1013 E. Laurel.

Gloria’s Tavern has been closed for about four years. Fustin says an exposed electrical wire leading into the building likely sparked the fire. It caused about $120,000 in damage to the three buildings. A nearby van was also damaged due to radiant heat.

No one was injured.
