The Sniping Continues

The Sniping Continues

The Illinois governor’s race is degenerating into “he said / he said,” and it’s not even Labor Day yet.

Speaking a few blocks apart, and a few hours apart, Democratic lieutenant governor candidate Paul Vallas and Republican gubernatorial nominee Bruce Rauner traded barbs over which candidate is worse for Illinois jobs.

“We’d like to know what jobs were created,” Vallas said of Rauner and his business interests, “what jobs were cut, what jobs were exported; outsourced to other countries.”

“This issue of outsourcing, this is going to come up a whole bunch of times,” said Rauner, calling it a “distraction” and a “red herring.” “I’ve never closed a plant or moved jobs overseas or that sort of thing.”

On the issue of disclosing taxes, Rauner said he’s doing more than is required before walking away from the lectern. Onlookers at his “term limits” news conference chided reporters to disclose their taxes as well and criticized them for asking questions that were not about term limits.
