Springfield Woman, 63, Dead After Duplex Fire

A 63-year-old woman is dead following two separate fires at the same Springfield duplex.

Fire Chief Ken Fustin says they were called to the duplex on Jefferson just east of Veterans Parkway the first time before 1:00. It started in the kitchen of the unoccupied side of the building, that’s under investigation.

They were called back for a two alarm fire on the occupied side shortly after 5:00. Eva Pellizzari was pronounced dead shortly before 6:00.

Fustin says the second fire was challenging because there was very little street frontage and crews had to lay 1500 feet of hose. Both fires are considered suspicious.

Rauner Issues Pardons

Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidate businessman Bruce Rauner participates in a Republican gubernatorial candidate debate Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, in Springfield, Ill. The four Republican gubernatorial candidates said that they’ll be willing to work with unions if elected but differed on how to approach the relationship during a downstate debate that largely focused on pension reform, taxes and just briefly on personal issues that have dogged some of the candidates.

Rauner granted 10 and denied 200 clemency petitions.
