Rauner: Quinn Fails Illinois Vets

Bruce Rauner is attacking Gov. Pat Quinn in an area that has long been a focus for Quinn — helping veterans.

Rauner is rolling out a new veterans coalition supporting his campaign, including veterans now in politics, such as U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.). Kirk claims Illinois veterans are hurting under Quinn because of difficulties finding work.

“To come back to Illinois from Afghanistan and Iraq and be unemployed is the worst way to be taken care of,” Kirk said, “and the guy who is going to employ those returning veterans is
Bruce Rauner.”

Rauner claims that more veterans may have been hired at the Illinois Department of Transportation, if not for the number of people improperly given positions at the agency for political reasons.

“You can be fairly certain that there would have been many veterans that could have taken those jobs instead of the cronies who were hired,” Rauner said. Whether any of the cronies” were veterans, and if so how many, is not known.

Rauner says veterans would also benefit from his education policies, particularly his call to increase funding for vocational training.
