The Faith Coalition for the Common Good held an informational meeting for people who may affected by rail consilidation in Springfield.

Property owner Blake Sampson is new to home-ownership and worries if his labor will be wasted with the potential of falling property values.

“I have many concerns.  I’m living in a construction site, I have purchased half the materials.  Should I purchase the other half?  Will I lose money,” Sampson asked..

He lives along the 10th Street corridor near North Grand Ave. and is trying to get information on a timeline for work.

Sangamon County State’s Attorney John Milhiser announced this week the hiring of former Sangamon County Judge Theodis Lewis to serve as the rail relocation ombudsman. His job, on a part time as needed basis, will be to ensure property owners get the information they need as the project moves forward.

Organizer Reverend T.  Ray McJunkins tried to reassure the several dozen people in attendance Thursday that money has not been identified and work could be years away — although at least one phase of the project, the Carpenter Street underpass, will break ground soon.
